Candidates involved in the appeal process should complete any registration regardless of the temporarily unresolved status of the appeal.

ADA Appeals

Please contact the NBEO Registrar at (704) 332-9565 for further information on ADA appeals.

Late Registration Appeals

Please contact the NBEO Registrar at (704) 332-9565 for further information on late registration appeals.

Scoring Appeals

Candidates who wish to appeal (which is different from requesting a hand verification of scores) must do so in writing within 60 days of the corresponding score release date posted on the web site.

Appeals must be submitted using the Official NBEO Appeal Form. For your convenience, you can prepare your appeal directly on the form below.

If you are unable to use the Appeal form for any reason, please contact the National Board and a printed copy will be mailed or faxed to you.

Once the appeal has been investigated at the staff level, the Executive Director will notify the candidate of the outcome of the investigation and the recommended course of action.

In the event that the candidate's appeal is denied at the staff level, the candidate has the right to appeal further to the Judicial Committee of the Board of Directors. The decision of the Judicial Committee completes the appeal process.

If the appeal is upheld at either the staff or the Judicial Committee levels, the appeal fee will be refunded.

APPEAL / HANDSCORE FORM

Candidates appealing their performance on the Clinical Skills section of the Part III "Patient Care" Examination:

  • April Exam:

Candidates who successfully appeal the results of their performance on the April administration receive special reexamination status for the subsequent administration in August. This status conveys a reduced fee (or no fee) and dual scoring (refer to Clinical Skills Reexamination Policy for a detailed explanation).

  • August Exam:

Candidates who successfully appeal the August administration will be reexamined, with no fee, and scheduled on a case-by-case basis.
